Second Saturday Science Talk, July 12th at 7 pm – Discover the Vera C. Rubin Observatory
July’s Science Topic – Discover the Vera C. Rubin Observatory
12 Jul 2025 19:00 – 21:00
Speaker: Erin Leigh Howard, Rubin scientist (and our very own Planetarium Manager!)
On Monday, June 23rd, Rubin Observatory released its first images to the public. The 3.2 gigapixel camera—the world’s largest ever created—captured the cosmos in stunning detail, but what’s so special about this camera and telescope, and why are astronomers buzzing with excitement over its completion? Join Rubin Scientist and BPO’s planetarium manager and education officer, Erin Leigh Howard, on Saturday, July 12th at 7pm to find out! Learn the ins and outs of the Rubin Observatory and its mission, and explore the tools that Rubin put together to make this and future images as publicly accessible as possible.
Afterwords, join us for a planetarium show where we’ll explore the southern hemisphere night sky!
