The Rudolph Planetarium has been enhanced with the addition of multicolor LED cove lights. These lights are first and foremost, a safety enhancement that makes it easier to see and move about under the dome. The lights are arranged in a trough, or cove, and reflect off the dome’s inner surface to light up the room. With white, red, green, and blue channels, the lights also enable us to create programs about color and light pollution. This winter, Planetarium Manager Erin and Program Coordinator Eleanor will be developing lessons and demonstrations in light for your enjoyment and education. A big thank you to Greg Swanson for figuring out how to wire up the control system. Check out this video to see the lights in action.
