John Goar (of Olympic Astronomical Society, DarkSky Olympic Peninsula, and BPAA Member!) is the “Dark Ranger” leading free public astronomy programs at Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. This will be the 16th summer season! He shares: “We use three Dobsonian telescopes, including Corvus an Obsession 15 inch Ultra-Compact. We also use a pair of homemade Dobsonian telescopes. Ursa Minor has a 12.5 inch aperture, and Draco has a 20 inch mirror. I use TeleVue eyepieces and usually choose those that give around 115X magnification.”
After paying to enter Olympic National Park, these are free programs, with no reservations needed. Learn more and see the 2026 Summer schedule at: Olympic Telescope
