Astrophotography Special Interest Group Kickoff Meeting
The first Astrophotography Special Interest Group meeting was held on January 24th. An excellent turnout of 14 attendees filled the observatory’s library. Organizer Chuck Wraith was excited by both the level of engagement and the diversity of interest that was shown at the meeting. He indicated that he hopes that this is just the beginning of something fun and informative.
Everyone introduced themselves and touched upon their areas of interest and expertise in astrophotography. The topics discussed ranged broadly from using Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras to post-processing images captured with cameras designed specifically for astrophotography. A sheet of wishes for topics was generated and Chuck promised to try and come up with a logical progression
Moving forward, it was determined to try and establish a regular meeting of the group on the second Saturday of the month at 11am. Therefore the next meet up is scheduled for February 14th. The proposed agenda includes a brief recap of the last meeting for comments and questions, a quick onboarding of some of the useful apps we talked about in the kickoff meeting, followed by Alan Herold presenting a talk/tutorial he has on imaging the night sky with personal cameras and DSLRs (Thanks, Alan!).
