BPO Gear Update: DWARF Mini Smart Telescope

You may have seen a new telescope in use at a recent Star Party, the DWARF Mini Smart Telescope. It’s pocket-sized (weighing only 840g) with an intelligent control system, and has been fun to use! The variety of smart tools and auto-tracking make it easy to take some great night sky images.

At its most basic, with a few simple instructions the Mini will acquire your chosen target and begin imaging a series of short exposures (subframes), saving them to its hard drive. At the end of the sequence, it automatically stacks the subframes to create the final image. There are other features that you can use to improve your results, such as calibration frames to remove noise, which I didn’t use here because I’m still learning!

Drop by Battle Point Observatory or an upcoming Star Party to see it in action. Do you have one yourself? We’re interested in hearing more about your experience or tips, let Frank know at frank@bpastro.org.
